What is A Waggle Dance?
Staring at the dancing bees in an observation hive, it hits me. I love how these tiny creatures communicate. It looks like they're having fun dancing around while telling their sisters where to find some nectar. This site is digital resource for anyone who want to learn more about bees. So here goes. Join me on an adventure with bees. I hope we can make learning as fun as the dancing bees informing their sisters.
Our History
Starting Out- February 2013-June 2013
I started this blog to provide an informative text about beekeeping and possibly other science concepts as I continued blogging. The Common Core Standards provide a framework for what students learn in our public schools. These Standards include teaching children how to interact with and learn from informative text. I know as an adult, reading blogs can be very informative. I had trouble finding the same type of resource for kids. So I wanted to create a website and blog to help them learn about bees and other things.
All About Bees- July-2013- 2019
After many articles posted on the blog, it seems that there may be no end to how much we can learn about bees. In fact Bees are the #2 most studied organism (#1 is us, humans). So I decided that this website is all about bees and beekeeping. In the future I would love to have guest beekeepers post on the blog and eventually I may even lead families on hive tours. I have started a kids section and hope to add more fun resources like coloring pages, puzzles, fun facts, and trivia. My mission remains the same- keep learning from the bees and sharing what I have learned.
A New Beginning- April 2019-Present
After the loss of our hive, and other life changes, we took some time off from this website and beekeeping. Two kids later and two homes later we have settled in and are ready to dust off the old hive, and add some new tenants to our yard. Join us on our journey as we teach our own kids about beekeeping and learn with them.
